Gettin’ Figgy With It

I know that’s the nerdiest/cheesiest blog post name in the history of blogging, but let’s just go with it. I am in a hurry and out of ideas.

It fits, because last night I was for some reason craaaaving figs. Guess the season calls for it. So I immediately decided to get creative, and make figs a part of my dinna. Here’s what I went with: http://www.food.com/recipe/roasted-salmon-with-caramelized-onions-and-figs-103255

It actually turned out pretty good…minus my being a little heavy on the rosemary. From now on, I will stick to my old ways of using whatevers dried and comes in a shaker, rather than try to do it “fresh” myself.

I now have a few figs leftover to have with lunch. Yay.

I was so busy after yesterdays debatably retarded 11 mile run doing laundry, shopping for figs and the like, that I slacked on stretching. And my legs were definitely feeling it today. Yet another notch in the yes column of “should I or should I not invest in a foam roller:” Because while I had every intention of heading to the gym this afternoon to use theirs, I’m not sure that will happen. Because the sun decided to come home from vacation early and it is gorgeous out! Sooo I’m going to take advantage of what could be one of the few lovely days remaining of my summerthatwentbytoofast and wander the city. If I wind up at the gym, great. If I don’t, que sera sera.

I did manage to knock out about 5 miles this morning, in what I guess we could call a recovery run since I was a little stiff from yesterday’s long one. I did a loop of the muddy bridle path, plus the out and back to the apartment. I finished things up with a cool down walk through Columbia’s main part of campus, and holy mother it made me want to be back in school. Le sigh.

There was a lovely breeze and snippets of sunshine, and I was in high spirits for most of the run (as has been the case lately, the first little bit was sluggish and not fun). I think I definitely need to get back into my habit of getting my lazy butt outta bed earlier and out the door. While its tough to get to that step, the overall run feels much better if I knock it out first thing in the a.m., before coffee. I did at least manage some decent stretching afterwards though, and a few minutes of free weights in case I don’t make it to the gym. Note to those who were kind of those to yell at me to go to yoga yesterday: the only class offered today is at 7:30 and its one I’ve never heard of. I also promised my cousin who is about to leave me for a job in Chicago that I’d get a going away drink with her at 5. So…there’s always tomorrow? Bahaha. I’m so bad. But again–gotta live up to the blogs name!

— Any suggestions for end-of-summer must-see’s in NYC? I want to soak up everything there is to do before cooler weather sets in!

— Columbia being packed with back to school students reallllly pushed me in the direction of going back to school. Any insight to share? Anyone??

Definitely invest in a foam roller! A lot of my friends are starting business school..makes me feel like I should too! Not sure though. Doesn’t seem like a great reason to go!

Don’t go back to school. Don’t. We will talk more about this at the Yankee game on the 19th.

I am obsessed with figs! So delicious. I’m currently in grad school and have been for a while (part time) I’d say do it if it’s for something you really love! That’s the only way it’s worth it!
